Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says promotion of education is the foremost priority of present government. He was talking to a high-level delegation of Google for Education, headed by Managing Director Kevin Kells in Islamabad today. The Prime Minister said the imposition of educational emergency shows the seriousness of the government in the education sector. He said steps are being taken for capacity building of the youth in the country by equipping them with technology. The Prime Minister welcomed Google's decision to set up a Chromebook manufacturing plant in Pakistan. He appreciated the signing of the Letter of Intent between Google for Education and the Federal Ministry of Education for the promotion of education in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also invited Google for Education to expand the scope of cooperation with the Pakistan. During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on Google for Education initiatives to promote education and training in Pakistan. Source: Radio Pakistan

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephonic conversation on the occasion of Eid ul Azha with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov. They exchanged Eid greetings. The two Ministers discussed the state of bilateral relations and the tremendous potential for collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, energy, and connectivity. Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui inaugurated a Tech-Ed Centre of Excellence, established in collaboration with Google, in Islamabad today. On this occasion, talking to a high level delegation led by Managing Director Google for Education Kevin Kells, he said we aim to transform the entire education system of the country. The Minister pointed out the high number of out of school children and the adverse impact it is having on our society. He said under his leadership, the Ministry of Education is working tirelessly to bring this number down. The Minister said the delegation can provide expertise and knowledge that can help us chart future plans that can enable us to resolve this issue. He urged the delegation to expand their scope of work with special regard to education in Pakistan. Dr Khalid assured the delegation of full support of the Ministry of Education in this regard. He said that optimum use of technology is the only way to bridge the enormous gap of resources needed. He said that Pakistan is at a critical juncture where every effort needs to be in the right direction. The Minister reiterated his resolve of increasing the number of skilled workforce in Pakistan. Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Liu Jianchao has arrived in Islamabad on a three-day visit. He was received at the Islamabad International Airport by Additional Foreign Secretary Asia and Pacific Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui. Minister Liu Jianchao will call on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and hold extensive bilateral talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
