Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar says Pakistan-Uzbekistan bilateral trade has immense potential and it can reach to over one billion dollars as a short-term target.

In an interview with an Uzbek TV, he said there are many areas where the two sides are producing goods, having immense demand, should be the focused areas for the mutual benefit of the two nations. He said Pakistan produces pharmaceuticals, while Uzbekistan and other regional countries have a huge consumption market and we can take advantage of this.

He said Uzbekistan can also be used as a transit route for further export. He said the two sides are working on these tangible areas.

Responding to a question, the Prime Minister commended Uzbekistan President’s eagerness towards Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railways network. He said World Bank and other regional players are being approached to materialize this great connectivity project, which will be mutually beneficial to all.

Replying to another question, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said Pakistan and Uzbekistan have historical and cultural relations and these ties can further be developed by exploring more avenues of connectivity such as direct air, rail and road linkages to bring people closer to one another. He said half of the Urdu vocabulary has common words in Uzbek language.
