Islamabad: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination has unveiled the Challenge Fund for Climate Resilient Infrastructure. The initiative aims to enhance Pakistan’s capacity to adapt to escalating climate challenges. This fund will be supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and will be implemented in collaboration with GIZ Pakistan and Adam Smith International (ASI).
According to Radio Pakistan, Aisha Humera Moriani, Secretary of the Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Ministry, emphasized that the climate-resilient infrastructure development initiative will be a joint effort between the Ministry and GIZ, a German development agency. The initiative’s primary goal is to strengthen the resilience of the country’s infrastructure against climate change impacts and promote the development of sustainable and adaptive infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that the launch of the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Challenge Fund represents a crucial step forward in the government’s continuous efforts to enhance Pakistan’s climate adaptation capabilities. The fund is designed to enable provinces and local governments to create and execute infrastructure projects that are climate-resilient, while also advancing sustainable development objectives and improving the well-being of local communities.
