Punjab Cabinet Approves Legal Aid Rules and Initiatives for Social Welfare


Lahore: The meeting of the Provincial Cabinet, chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, was held in Lahore today. The cabinet approved several initiatives aimed at enhancing social welfare and improving public services in the province.



According to Radio Pakistan, one of the key approvals was the establishment of the Punjab Legal Aid Rules, which are designed to ensure free legal assistance for impoverished individuals. This move is expected to provide crucial support to those unable to afford legal representation.



Additionally, the cabinet approved the formation of Special Investigation Units dedicated to addressing sex crimes. This initiative aims to bolster the investigation and prosecution process for these serious offenses.



In a noteworthy development, the cabinet also granted approval in principle for the establishment of airports in Bhakkar and Bahawalnagar. This infrastructure expansion is anticipated to enhance connectivity and economic opportunities in these regions.



The meeting further agreed on providing free travel for special persons, senior citizens, and students across the province. This measure is expected to facilitate mobility and ease the financial burden on these groups.



Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of recovering fines and traffic challans, advocating for a zero-tolerance policy in this regard. She also highlighted the positive reception of the Nigehbaan Ramadan Package, which has benefitted over 2.5 million deserving families with Ramadan cheques.



Moreover, she announced the distribution of Ration Cards to 1.5 million deserving families and instructed the relevant authorities to control the prices of essential commodities during Eid ul Fitr.
