President, PM Felicitate Sikh Community on Vaisakhi


Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have extended warm greetings to the Sikh community, living in Pakistan and worldwide, on the occasion of Vaisakhi.



According to Radio Pakistan, in his message, the President stated that Vaisakhi symbolizes Pakistan’s cultural and religious diversity. He highlighted the significant role the Sikh community plays in the progress and prosperity of Pakistan, emphasizing that the constitution guarantees complete religious freedom, equal rights, and protection for minorities. The President reaffirmed the country’s commitment to interfaith harmony, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.



Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, noted that the festive occasion marks the ripening of the Rabi harvest, bringing joy to farmers as they reap the rewards of their hard work. He remarked that the day serves as a reminder of the enduring spirit of hope, unity, and renewal that unites communities and forms the core of the nation. The Prime Minister urged everyone to move forward together, inspired by the spirit of Vaisakhi, to build a brighter, more inclusive, and stronger future.



Meanwhile, during the main ceremony of the Vaisakhi Festival at Nankana Sahib, Minister of State for Religious Affairs, Kheal Das Kohistani, emphasized that Pakistan belongs to all its communities, with every religion respected. He affirmed that all minorities enjoy the freedom to worship and celebrate their festivals in Pakistan. The Minister of State dismissed India’s claims that minorities are unsafe in Pakistan, asserting that it is, in fact, minorities in India who face targeting.



Kheal Das Kohistani warmly welcomed the Sikh Yatrees who traveled to Nankana Sahib from across the country and abroad, including India, to participate in the Vaisakhi celebrations.
