Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says steps are being taken to bring innovation to the agriculture sector to make Pakistan self-sufficient in food.
Talking to Minister for National Food Security and Research Tariq Bashir Cheema in Islamabad on Thursday, he said the government ensured the compensation of farmers for their hardwork by providing the best support price of sugarcane, cotton and wheat.
He said the government is allocating resources for supply of quality seeds, solarization of tube-wells and machinery in the upcoming budget.
The Prime Minister said the government, in collaboration with the farmers, will invest in the agricultural sector for the value addition of the agricultural production.
On the occasion, Tariq Bashir Cheema briefed the Prime Minister about the progress on the Kissan Package and the plans of his ministry regarding the upcoming crops.
The Prime Minister was also apprised about the strategy to bring innovation and mechanization to agricultural sector during the next financial year.
