Goods Worth Rs75.6 Billion Seized During Crackdown Against Smuggling

Islamabad: In the ongoing countrywide crackdown against smuggling, smuggled goods worth 75.6 billion rupees have been seized from January last year till last month. Strict border security measures, including the closure of all illegal routes along the Pak-Afghan and Pak-Iran borders, have been instrumental in controlling smuggling.

According to Radio Pakistan, over 54 joint check posts across the country have prevented smuggled goods from reaching populated areas, while two more joint check posts have been established in Balochistan to counter alternative smuggling routes. Additional measures include a crackdown against Iranian oil smuggling, digitization of fuel pumps, the installation of a sea barrier in the Kuntani area of Balochistan, and the use of a GIS application to identify legal petrol pumps.

A maritime front task force has also been mobilized under the Directorate General of Pakistan Maritime Security Agency to halt maritime smuggling. In conjunction with these efforts, the Federal Board of Revenue has announced plans to establish 35 digital enforcement stations at key smuggling points.

Meanwhile, the anti-human trafficking campaign has been intensified, leading to the arrest of 605 human traffickers, the dismissal of 48 corrupt officers, and the blacklisting of 155 others.
