National Climate Change Gender Action Plan launched

First ever National Climate Change Gender Action Plan was launched in Islamabad on Wednesday.

It has been prepared by the Ministry of Climate Change in collaboration with Green Climate Fund and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Addressing the launching ceremony, Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman underscored the need for prioritizing women in climate change policies.

The Minister said women should be placed at the center of climate change policies and given opportunities to address their extreme vulnerability in this climate catastrophe that Pakistan is going through.

Highlighting the impact of climate change on women, the Minister said women are the most affected when conflicts strike due to issues of accessibility and lack of gendered disaster preparedness but they are also the real agents of change when you need nature-based solutions.

The Minister said it is our responsibility to empower women who go through the trauma of climate change-induced displacement and migrations especially in the cities.

She also called for action plan to support awareness raising and capacity building.
