Pakistan calls for bold re-set of global climate agenda

Pakistan has called for bold re-set of the global climate agenda to mitigate the sufferings of countries, affected adversely by the impacts of climate change.

The call was made by Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman while taking part in the Berlin Climate Moot underway in Germany.

She said the resetting of agenda is necessary for accelerating the pace of implementation of pledges made so far to address the needs of developing countries before the crucial COP 27 in November in Egypt.

The Minister said Pakistan’s extreme vulnerability to climate induced events has exposed it to unprecedented heat waves, forest fires, glacial lake outburst floods, water scarcity and torrential monsoon flooding.

She said all these events have affected agricultural productivity, livelihoods, human health and economic stability.

Sherry Rehman underscored the need to accelerate actions as well as joint finance implementation goals to compensate the countries which are facing losses due to climate events.

She said global pledges must be translated into planning and accessible funding pipelines for operationalizing our joint goals.
