World Water Day Focuses on Glacier Preservation Amid Global Observance

Islamabad: World Water Day is being observed on Saturday to raise awareness about the need for sustainable water management and conservation. This year, the theme of the day is ‘Glacier Preservation’, highlighting the crucial role glaciers play in sustaining life. The rapid melting of these vital ice masses poses a significant threat to both animal and plant life across the globe.

According to Radio Pakistan, glaciers are integral to maintaining environmental balance, and their accelerated melting due to climate change demands immediate attention and action. The observance aims to educate and mobilize individuals and communities towards adopting practices that support glacier preservation and sustainable water use.

In a related environmental initiative, the annual Earth Hour will be observed in Pakistan tonight, along with many other countries worldwide. This event encourages individuals, communities, and businesses to participate by switching off non-essential electric lights for an hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM, as a symbolic gesture to show commitment to the planet’s well-being.
